Dwight H. and Luther H. Platt papers, circa 1859 - 1914

The collection consists of materials from family members Luther H. and Dwight Henry Platt. Luther Platt's papers include letters from his wife Nettie and other family members, correspondence with the American Missionary Association (AMA) and other religious groups (such as the American Congregational Union regarding building a church in Garden City) and individuals; a small diary or record book from the late 1850s and 1860s noting some financial information and Luther's activities while in Illinois; military papers and correspondence with military officials in the South after the war, particularly regarding individuals still being held as slaves; shipping records for materials sent by railroad; notes for and handwritten copies of sermons; and other miscellaneous materials. The papers of Dwight Henry Platt include letters to his parents (Luther and Nettie) while he was at Washburn College in the early 1880s; letters from friends and other individuals for business and professional purposes; books of sermons mostly from when Dwight was at Overbrook, Osage County; diary or record books mostly noting information about sermons he preached including while he traveled and his other religious duties and activities; circulars and advertisements; articles and other writings on a variety of topics; and other similar materials.
